Angielski dla Wymagających

Steal Somebody's Thunder

Dzisiaj będzie o kradzieży czyjegoś grzmotu czyli o jednym z moich ulubionych idiomów w języku angielskim tzn. STEAL SOMEBODY'S THUNDER.

Definitionto do what someone else was going to do before they do it, especially if this takes success or praise away from them

"I'm sorry, apparently I've opened the door to the past!") i zarzuca im ściągnięcie na siebie całej uwagi ("You kind of stole my thunder!")

Zresztą sami zobaczcie jak to wyglądało:

i jeszcze kilka przykładów:

Sandy stole my thunder when she announced that she was pregnant two days before I'd planned to tell people about my pregnancy.

Edward stole my expression. He's such thunder thief.

A: I think we should do our presentation about Stem Cell Research.
B: Great idea! I’m going to tell the professor!
A: I should tell the professor because it was my idea. Stop stealing my thunder!

Georgie Fame
Somebody stole my thunder

Guess what, guess who?
Somebody stole my thunder,
And now somebody's gonna pay!
I'll soon be freakin' out from under
And love to live another day.

Well now, just now,
Somebody stole my action,
I'm busted but revenge is sweet,
I'm gonna get me satisfaction,
I'm gonna get me sweets to eat!

No one told me lock the doors and window
Of your house or pay the consequence,
No one told me someone's paw-like fingers
Would make off with that which I love best!

That's how, just now
Somebody stole my thunder
I'm busted but revenge is sweet,
I'm gonna get me satisfaction,
If they don't pay me back in kind,
I'm gonna lose my tiny mind,
Or did they mean to bug my party line?

They stole my thunder!
I wonder why?

  2. Miałam dokładnie tak samo :))) Friends, friends, friends:)

Tak samo jak z byciem a little shy of money :)

Kiedy Rossowi brakuje pieniędzy na grę w pokera i mówi do Joeya " Joey, I'm a little shy" ( brakuje mu gotówki), na co Joey odpowiada " Don't be Ross, you can ask me anything" :) --> cytuję z głowy, więc może nie do końca tak :)
