Angielski dla Wymagających

Always look on the bright side of life

Always look on the bright side of life is a comedy song that was featured in the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian. It's one of the most famous Monty Python's songs. At the end of the film Brian Cohen, sentenced to death by crucifixion, is cheered up by a character on a nearby cross who sings him the song. The song is of course ironic since Brian is certain to die any minute now. Always look on the bright side of life touched a chord with the British trait of stoicism and the 'stiff upper lip' in the face of disaster and became amazingly popular.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse (przeklinać)
When you're chewing on life's gristle (chew to przeżuwać lub żuć; gristle to chrząstka, czyli coś ciężkiego do zgryzienia; chodzi zapewne o zastanawianie się nad problemami trudnymi do rozgryzienia)
Don't grumble (narzekać), give a whistle (zagwiżdż)
And this'll help things turn out for the best (to sprawi, że wszystko będzie dobrze)

And always look on the bright side of life (zawsze patrz na jasną stronę życia)
Always look on the light side of life (lekką/błahą stronę życia)

If life seems jolly rotten (śmiesznie zgniłe/zepsute/zdemoralizowane)
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps (jesteś w dołku)

purse your lips

Don't be silly chumps (głupią pałą/bałwanem)
Just purse your lips (zmarszcz usta) and whistle, that's the thing

And always look on the bright side of life
Come on! (Chodź!)
Always look on the right side of life (właściwą stronę życia)

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow (zawsze musisz ukłonić się stawając w obliczu (opadającej) kurtyny - taka metafora oblicza śmierci)
Forget about your sin (grzech)

a grin
Give the audience a grin (szeroki uśmiech)
Enjoy it, it's your last chance (ostatnia szansa) anyhow

So, always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath (zaraz zanim weźmiesz ostatni oddech)

Life's a piece of shit (Życie jest gó...niane)
When you look at it (jak tak na nie patrzysz)
Life's a laugh (życie jest śmieszne) and death's a joke (śmierć jest żartem), it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go (Niech się z ciebie nieustannie śmieją)
Just remember that the last laugh is on you (pamiętaj tylko, że to ty się będziesz śmiał ostatni)

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

C'mon Brian, cheer up! (No chodź Brian! Rozchmurz się!)

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life

Worse things happen at sea, you know
Always look on the bright side of life

I mean, what have you got to lose (co masz do stracenia)
You know, you come from nothing, you're going back to nothing
(z niczego powstałeś i niczym sie staniesz)
What have you lost? Nothing!

Always look on the right side of life...

Nothing will come from nothing, you know what they say?
Cheer up you old bugger (rozchmurz się stary łajdaku!)
c'mon give us a grin! (uśmiechnij się szeroko!)
There you are, see, it's the end of the film.
