Moon River

This is probably one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. It was composed by Henry Mancini and the lyrics were written by Johnny Mercer in 1961. That year it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was originally sung in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's by Audrey Hepburn, although it has been covered by many other artists. 

 

There  are a few performances of Moon River which are most famous and popular.

The first one is by Audrey Hepburn. She sang it in Breakfast at Tiffany's movie. The movie itself is a masterpiece. Made in 1961 by Blake Edwards, it is probably still one of the best romantic comedies ever made. The movie is based on one of Truman Capote's novellas. It tells the story of Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) who is a little naive society girl getting involved with mafia. One morning she is awaken by a new tenant in the building she resides in - Paul Varjak (George Peppard) who gradually falls in love with her. I won't tel you the whole story of course but it's one of the most moving love stories in the history of Holywood film industry.
